knee surgery, 2008 : Had to have my right ACL replaced again. Fell off my bike into a drainage ditch and did a number on it and to my meniscus. But both were repaired on Monday (10/13) - meniscus is healing up after being stitched back together and in place and I'll be off my feet for 5-6 weeks while that slow process takes place. And the ACL was redone with the middle third of my patella tendon. The tendon was harvested with a bone plug from my knee cap and one from my shinbone intact on either end to help the graft take hold in my femur and tibia. I'm on the road to recovery now! First couple of days has been all about pain management and trying to get the knee moving, hopefully to 90 degrees by the 1 week mark. Quadsets and other flexing type workouts for my knee as well. PT has begun... I'll update this gallery with pics of the knees progression as I get back to doing what I had to did. Thanks, Marty~10/16/08 Stitches came out today! Stoked. C'Ville 10 Miler : Twas a muggy morning when these mugs began their 10 mile run. It was Day (aka Prefontaine with his molestache) leading things off at the UVA Chapel with Huffy (aka Bicep) just 20 yards off pace. Jay posed his way through on Huff's heels and Paul flexed by not far behind. Susan and Asha came through some time later and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the throngs of fans. At the next noteworth checkpoint, the ABC store on Main street, it was Day still out front with Huffy, just out of Day's view and contemplating which side to pass him on. Paul had a malfunction with his short leg (probably his proximity to the sweet nectar across the street caused a spasm) and Jay's chest seemed itchy as he removed most of his shirt. Andy, Aven and I hustled to the finish and low and behold... Bicep crests the final rise well out in front of the crew and danced across the line. Paul came through next and I tried for an interview but he wasn't too talkative. Prefontaine rolled in next, dejected by the sneaky tactics played by Huffy and proud of Paul for figuring out how to swing those arms. Jay might have finished.
